Tube Heaters

Radiant mounted gas infrared heating systems

Schwank tube heaters deliver efficiency, comfort, and reliability. They are ideal for a wide range of applications with low 8′-to-high 50′ ceiling heights. And they’re perfect for dirty environments and work for negative air conditions where outside combustible air is ducted to the sealed burner for safe, trouble-free operation.

Radiant tube heaters are classified as gas-fired infrared heating devices and rank among the group of decentralized heating systems. As opposed to central heating systems, they are characterized by the fact that their heat is generated in the exact location it’s needed versus passively throughout the space and provides redundancy in that if a single tube heater fails in a facility many others are still operating.

Several features set Schwank tube heaters apart from the rest:

  • Contributes up to 10 out of 30 LEED points (energy and atmosphere category)
  • Ultra-quiet Whisper Jet burners for minimal noise (46 dB[A] at 10 feet (3m))
  • Easy access: one-click opening for quick access to the burner
  • Easy maintenance with simple latch access [heater runs in the open position for easy service and troubleshooting]
  • Our service warranty claims are less than 0.5% of sales

Technology

Gas infrared technology at a glance

Inside the tube heater, the combustion of the gas-air mixture takes place within a long steel tube, producing a ~1012 °F (~580 °C) heat and subsequently emitting infrared radiation. The surrounding surfaces absorb this thermal energy and, in turn, re-emit it into the environment, creating a balanced micro-climate. The concept is seen in nature, too: the sun’s rays pass through the air without heating it and emit their energy when they fall on surfaces.

Infrared gas radiant heaters are a popular form of heating because the heating takes place where it is required and is, therefore, less wasteful. This reduces energy costs significantly and improves people’s comfort.

Schwank Gas Infrared Heaters deliver more comfort for less cost—users enjoy savings of 35% to 50% compared to forced-air systems.

The Whisper-Jet burner is the core of Schwank tube heaters. It produces a flame, which creates a ~580 °C heat. Our Whisper-Jet creates a 14’ (4.3m) laminar flame—that’s over double the length seen in other models. It is the culmination of decades of engineering advancements by our team. We’ve combined the extraordinary flame with our ceramic tile technology to produce a more uniform heat over the length of the tube.

What’s more, Whisper-Jet is an exceptionally quiet burner. With approx. 46dB[A] at 10 feet (3m) distance, you hear no more than a soft whisper.

An optional two-stage burner controls operation to better match actual heating requirements. This saves resources and lowers operating costs.

For even more economy and fewer temperature fluctuations, you have the option of full modulation. This can save up to 14% of the energy and create a more comfortable temperature for the people in that space.

How it works: Apart from the desired room temperature, the minimum outdoor temperature also forms the basis for the calculation of the heat requirement of buildings. In order to ensure the building maintains the desired target temperature even at very low temperatures, the heating system is designed for these minimum temperatures; in other words, the heating system is oversized to compensate for the coldest scenario. Since the total output is required only rarely, full modulation offers the option of adapting the output to the actual requirement.

While single-stage solutions will produce fluctuations in the actual temperature, a fully modulating system by Schwank can be flexible in adjusting its output. As a result, the actual and target temperature lie significantly closer to each other, and temperature fluctuations are avoided.
